"Winter cherries" of the Russian defense industry

Mass death of people in the Kemerovo shopping center “Winter Cherry” suddenly “led” to the resignation of the changeless and “unsinkable” governor Aman Tuleyev. It happened only a week after the tragedy.

The Kremlin tried, in the spent style by decades, “not to hand over their own” – and denied the possibility of resignation of Tuleyev, because, exactly one week before the fire in the shopping center, Tuleyev, as usual, organized of his proprietary “highest” percentage for Putin in the election.

In other regions, the governors were released for corruption, so that the new appointees could provide the electorate in elections with a new force.

In this case, Tuleyev resigned himself, but, most likely, for purely age-related reasons, and after long negotiations with Moscow about guarantees for himself and his associates. More precisely, according to available information, after a long negotiation process on the “division of property” in the following areas:

a) “milch cows” and “chicken with golden eggs”, which will go to feed the new appointees;

b) cash, which will go to the Kremlin blanket of protection;

c) what will remain for Tuleyev and his loyal partners in order to live his own and to give it to their grandchildren.

But in the defense sphere, despite the “strategic problems”, the situation is somewhat different. Chief curator Dmitry Rogozin is not going to resign – because he is “a man in the prime of his life”, and younger than Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin himself.

Nevertheless, in the main royal patrimony – the Russian defense industry, a multiple crisis is maturing, which inevitably makes the resignation of Dmitry Rogozin a matter of time.

Defense industry is not accidentally named the main fiefdom and sphere of interests of the first person – Vladimir Putin. In a certain sense, to preserve power in the Kremlin, the defense industry is more important than oil and gas. After all, it is military power that ensures the inviolability of any Soviet, and Russian ruler, and his regime, from the moment when Stalin gained the atomic bomb in 1949. Export of weapons adds political influence in any region of the world and in any country, and a bonus – brings money.

However, in recent years, the Russian defense and space industry have seen a series of “Kemerovo fires” – catastrophes, accidents and refusals to buy Russian arms. The most painful and scandalous was the Indian refusal to purchase and operate Russian weapons. The crashes of space rockets at launch have become so regular practice that the regular launch of a missile is already considered a miracle.

The situation is trying to correct by the strengthening of the media struggle – the creation of impressive presentations for personal sounding by Vladimir Putin and “Potemkin” models of advanced technology for broadcasts in the evening news on TV. However, in this case, sometimes they have to resort to open fraud, and use the American video and cutting out video games, giving it out for the actions of the Russian army.

 «Scientific barracks» in Putin’s style

As Comrade Stalin said: “Every mistake has a name and a surname”. And after any accident, failure or catastrophe of new military equipment, only “name and surname” sounds – Dmitry Rogozin.

The appointment of Rogozin is a “humane” continuation of the Stalin tradition of “scientific barracks”, led by curators from the NKVD, and then by the MGB. Scientists-prisoners, as Sergei Korolev or Andrei Tupolev, in their memoirs, noted about the total technical illiteracy of the “guards” from the “security bodies” attached to them.

Dmitry Rogozin is a complete organic continuation of this practice. By education, he is generally a humanitarian, and under no circumstances can be compared to such a Brezhnev titan as Dmitry Ustinov, who was an engineer, specifically on military equipment.

Rogozin, which was born in the family of Lieutenant-General Oleg Rogozin, began his career in foreign intelligence due to a profitable marriage to Tatyana Serebryakova, the daughter of an officer of the KGB. This gave him the opportunity to taste a beautiful life abroad. If he would have been an engineer, like Ustinov, he would have spent his youth in the Siberian or Ural military factories, and of course, categorically forbidden to travel abroad.

In the 90s, Rogozin focused on his former chief of the FIS, Yevgeny Primakov, but in time he realized that the era of Putin is coming in Russia and the more promising office is the FSB. And that is a reason why he moved to the FSB side.

The appointment of Rogozin as a curator of the defense industry is the result of the lobbying of FSB “blanket of protection” in the person of Colonel-General Sergei Chemezov, the general director of corporation Rostekh, who is closely friends with the equally powerful FSB person, General Sergei Beseda. He is known as the main curator of the FSB for operations in the occupied part of Donbass, as well as in Ukraine as a whole.

The war for the scalp of Rogozin

It should be pointed out that the above explanations of “who to whom friend” are already outdated by now, and the rules of the game began to radically change.

Built in the “rich years” of Putin-Medvedev, the intricate pyramid of protégés and appointees begins to crumble at the present moment due to the “financial hunger” that overtook Russia due to the general economic recession, falling oil prices, “useful” Western sanctions, which resulted in a regime of extremely tight financial savings and a reduction in spending by the Federal Ministry of Finance.

This makes the “gray cardinals” go out of the shadows and personally join to the struggle for control over defense money, in which Rogozin himself becomes a victim of the crossfire of tough rivals.

The unsinkable Sergei Shoigu and the above-mentioned Sergei Chemezov the main rivals are now. Shoigu cannot be called a humanist or more competent in matters of the defense industry amid FSB. He is equally ruthless as to the civilian population of Donbass and Syria, and to rivals for the meager budgetary flows. It’s just a battle of “alien against a predator”.

The blood of Donbass in the hands of Shoigu is no less than that of the Lubyanka puppeteers of Donbas separatism. Shoigu is seeking to strengthen his own political weight by mass bombing of Syria, with the use of all kinds of “new” weapons, which is always accompanied by massive television PR. The goal is to convince Putin personally of his ability to achieve victory, despite the great attendant sacrifices, including victims between “their own”.

The most obvious victim was even Putin’s personal restaurateur – Yevgeny Prigozhin, who oversees the food in the Russian army and private army of mercenaries of the “Wagner” PMC. In Syria, Shoigu deliberately refused to provide weapons, medical assistance and evacuation for Wagner’s mercenaries, which doomed them to death.

The loudest case is the destruction of the mercenaries of Prigogine by the Americans near Deir-ez-Zor. Shoigu deliberately was watching and waiting when the mercenaries will get in trouble, so that his subordinates from the Defense Ministry only shrugged their shoulders and said they did not know who it was under the American attack.

Shoigu also kicked Prigogine’s firms out of contracts with the Russian Defense Ministry in Russia. Half of the 25 companies associated with Yevgeny Prigozhin are in the stage of bankruptcy, liquidation, or have already been liquidated.

The amount of contracts that are signed in 2017 and 2018, and must be completed by these companies in 2018, is several times less than in previous years. In 2018, these companies signed contracts for 2.3 billion rubles, which is 10 times less than contracts for the previous year.

It can be assumed that after stepping onto the open warpath for full control over defense money, including the industrial sector, Shoigu will soon wipe Rogozin into powder. But only on the condition that he will not be fight against people from Lubyanka, because Shoigu and his military intelligence have recently received enough “knives in the back” from the Lubyanka, which from time to time led “land from under the feet” of Shoigu, raising the question about his future destiny.
